About Us
02 community is a group of local residents who are passionate about helping people to expand community spirit, as we explore the sense of belonging together in the Ormeau area in which we play and live. We believe that life is a journey and not a race, and that there is more to living than simply work or what we might accumulate. Belonging together, discovering purpose, and experiencing a sense of hope in the business of life, is something that we tend to not reflect much on when we are living in the fast lane.
In 2008, a group of people got together and called ourselves "02 community Ormeau" with the expressed purpose of learning together the value of slowing the pace of life, and to enjoy and appreciate what is around us, including each other. We are built for relationships - we can see that as we interact with others, and as friendships develop. Some relationships go deeper and make commitments to each other and go on to raise families, and so continue to teach the value of relationship with their children.
In 2009 we began BBQ's in the local parks on sunday mornings to assist with this process of making a deliberate choice to slow down and get to know those who live in the area with us. 02 community is affiliated with the Southport Church of Christ and as a result of the conversations around the BBQ's we instituted in 2010 "Cafe Lite" where people, if they wish, can come to discuss life and God, relationship, purpose and hope.
